This song was written in response to the tragic news of Theo Drefus' death. He was an amazing person, a great friend and this song, along with some of my strongest views on life are all because of him. It illustrates fragility.
lyrics
Steering through a field of wheat,
A winding trail behind my feet.
Where i go i do not know
but i'll take my time, i'll take it slow.
Think of times spent oh so sweet,
and then a drifter i do meet.
For the wicked words he next would speak,
he advised i sit and take a seat and said.....
"No one is safe from an unexpected end.
Death may be waiting for you around the next bend."
A fool? A madman? A drunk of his head?
Or was i exchanging words with judge of the dead?
Tell me sir how i should be,
If there's such fragility.
Wave goodbye to those i love or relish in their company.
What should it all mean to me,
If the tree of life sheds its summer leaves?
Why must you be my enemy?
But he turned to show his back to me.
"No one is safe from an unexpected end.
Death may be waiting for you around the next bend."
A fool? A madman? A drunk of his head?
Or was i exchanging words with judge of the dead?
Let me hold the key,
To unlock my fears and set me free.
Oh how wonderful it must be,
if just once to hold back reality.
When all your lights go out others shine for some,
As when one life ends, others are begun.
This gives me the strength to SHINE ON.
